Turn the cards to see ways to start a conversation when things are calmer.

One lost game and the pieces land on the floor.
You ask what happened. The answer stays the same.

You want to talk. Your child doesn’t want to talk about themselves.

It’s time to leave the playground. Laughter has turned to shouting.

A new situation. Taking the first step feels hard.

You want to spend time together but can’t think of what to do.
Sometimes you don’t know what to say either.
Sit down to play together. On the board, you will meet characters who struggle, feel afraid or have something to celebrate. You can talk about their expressions and actions before bringing up what happened at home. Your child can talk about themselves, stick with the character's story or skip a question. You can answer too.

Look at the characters' expressions and behaviour. What does their face tell you? What do they do when they are upset?
The game's questions give you a chance to use words such as anger, fear and joy in a specific situation.
You might have different answers to the same scene. There is room for your child to hear your thoughts too.
Later, you can return to a familiar scene: “Remember that driver?” You have something you both know to refer to.
